Stitchy love

Speaking of inspiration, you must look at this person's artwork.
Amazing.

Finished

As I'm pretty sure that the recipient of this pressie would have got it in the mail by now, here's the pic of the finished pillowcase that I mentioned last week. I'm a bit disappointed in the way I did the dragon's face, but c'est la vie.

Here's the original drawing by my friend that I took the design from:

And golly, I need a new camera...using my phone is crappy.

Next

Well I finished my birthday pressie embroidery, I'll post a finished pic when the recipient has received it. So, onto the next project, which is going to be a pillowcase for me, adorned with Chinese acrobats.

Some crafty content

As anyone who keeps up with my poor blog will know, I think I've lost my life mojo. You get that. But part of it is, my craft mojo has gone with it too... so lately I've been doing what I'll call "comfort crafts". Comfortable in that I don't have to stretch my brain and come up with ideas or new things. So what I've been doing is starting innumerable knitting projects (from commercial patterns), and working on embroidery. Still going on my Sublime Stitching tote (and I'm very excited about their latest patterns - I love Carson Ellis!) and other embroidered goodness.

Here's a photo (taken with my phone, sorry Lola ate the digital camera) of my latest project. It's going to be a birthday pressie for a new friend of mine, but I'm pretty safe in assuming they don't read the blog.

Happy Friday all.

Owlie

Speaking of embroidery, go here and stitch up Andrea's gorgeous owl!

I *heart* people who share their embroidery patterns.

Blogging and 'broidery

May 10, 2009, originally uploaded by thirdpersonpossessive.

Found via Craftblog, but I do so like this idea. I could never do it though, my written communication is too verbose (can written communication be too verbose?)
But this one struck a chord with me, I am crap at talking about myself in person.

Love Fridays

I'm not sure who runs Love Fridays now, but sometimes I still like to play along to remind myself of some good in the day (week). This morning I saw this tote on Sublime (via Facebook), so I had to get thee to the site and order one IMMEDIATELY. And now I will wait by my mailbox.

Yes, my love affair with stitching continues. I was super excited yesterday to find a seller on Ebay who sells reprints of vintage embroidery transfers that you can just iron on. Yay! Might be time to get myself an Ebay account. And so many designs I hadn't seen before, such Heaven! As an aside, I also found my next tattoo design... hurrah. Better go buy that pattern post haste.

By the way, thanks for the feedback re: my op-shopping angst. I'm so glad I'm not alone. Sometimes I feel like I'm the world's biggest smellfungus.

Some of my favourite bloggers always end their posts with "listening to" and I like, so I'll start doing that too... Happy Friday all.

Sketchy

Speaking of stitching, you know the biggest buzz I got out of seeing 'Handmade Nation' (besides the Little Friends of Printmaking) was seeing the Sublime Stitching HQ. Oooh! Where the embroidery patterns come from! Squee!
So just for some eye candy today, here's one of Jenny Hart's pattern sketches found via Flickr. And I finished my Mitch O'Connell tea towel on Friday night. I'll put a pic up when I've washed and ironed it.

Mike's stitch along

The other night I finished my little girl from the Mike's Christmas stitchalong project. Here's a quick snap:

[that's supposed to be cream calico, but the light is crummy in here.]
Not really sure what I'm going to do with it, but thought it too cute not to make!

Sashiko happy

Yep, Sharon was right, after a visit to Kimono House today, and an hour on the train stitching, I'm loving sashiko. Simple, elegant, satisfying, and pretty. I bought this kit to stitch:

I'm doing the background in variegated blue/green swirls with red fish. Yay!

Flossy

I seem to have hit the proverbial wall, and am collapsed in a blob on the couch. Tomorrow does not bode well. However, what I have been doing is winding embroidery floss onto cardboard bobbins, and it is indeed strangely relaxing and soothing. I seem to have floss everywhere, old, new, tangled, untangled, so I'm trying to achieve some sort of organisation. My floss is nowhere as organised as this pretty pic that I borrowed from Flickr...but now it's not tangled either.

Pic from Miss Retro Modern's fab collection here.
